Mid-Semester is Quickly Approaching!

It's almost half way through the semester! Mid-semester estimates will be available soon for viewing in myRedDragon.

All students should receive estimates on their progress in all courses. The options are:
“S” - Satisfactory
“U” - Unsatisfactory
“F” - Failing
“NR” means “Not Recorded” and typically indicates that your professor did not submit estimates by the deadline. To receive your mid-semester estimates in this case, see your professor directly.
"N" Student never attended the course that was registered for.

Estimates can be helpful in gauging your success so far in the course. If you received a U or F, talk to your professor during his/her office hours about how to improve your grades.  Receiving an S indicates that you currently have a C or higher in your class.  The U indicates C- and below.
Estimates of “S,” however, can also be deceiving since you may not have had enough graded assignments in the class to accurately assign a grade.

At this time of year, it is a good habit to personally assess your performance in your classes. If you have concerns in a class, even if you received an “S,” talk to your professor and consider seeking academic help through ASAP on campus.

Tips for Success at SUNY Cortland

Tips for a Successful Semester
Familiarize yourself with myRedDragon.  All of your personalized information can be found via your myRedDragon account.

Understand your Degree Works audit.  Your audit details all your requirements for graduation.  Found on myRedDragon, this is a valuable tool to keep you on track.

Check your Cortland email daily.  Your Cortland email account is the primary way the College corresponds with you.  Your email address typically is firstname.lastname@cortland.edu

Dates and deadlines are Important.   Many academic deadlines are firm, so become familiar with the deadlines below.  Additional dates can be found in your Student Planner.

Become familiar with the College Catalog.  You are responsible for the curriculum and academic policies in the 2014-2015catalog since that is the year you start courses at Cortland.

Meet with your academic advisor.  Your advisor’s name and contact information can be found on myRedDragon.  Your advisor helps you with course selection but also academic decision making and planning.  You must meet with your advisor prior to registration for each semester.
      Remember to:
o   Initiate contact, asking questions, communicating your concerns
o   Learn your degree requirements and academic policies
o   Prepare for appointments
o   Explore minors, concentrations, and study abroad opportunities

Don't forget to Get Involved!
