Transfer Tips

Transfer Tips

¨  Become familiar with myRedDragon.  From housing to class registration to financial aid, all your personalized information can be found via your myRedDragon account.

¨  Understand your CAPP report.  Your Curriculum Advising and Program Planning (CAPP) report details all your requirements for graduation.  Found on myRedDragon, this is a valuable tool to keep you on track.

¨  Check your Cortland email daily.  Your Cortland email account is the primary way the College will correspond with you, so it is important to regularly check your account.  Your email address typically is firstname.lastname@cortland.edu

¨  Pay attention to dates and deadlines.   Many academic deadlines are firm, so become familiar with them.  Many deadlines can be found here; additional dates can be found in your Student Planner.

¨  Subscribe to the Transfer Student Blog. The blog is updated regularly with reminders of dates/deadlines and upcoming events. Enter your email address in the box to the right, and you will also receive an email each time a new blog is posted.

¨  Email your Transfer Buddy with questions or concerns.  Your buddy is a returning student who has volunteered to help you.  Use them!  They want to help.

¨  Become familiar with the College Catalog.  The College Catalog can be found online at www.cortland.edu/catalog.  You are responsible for the curriculum and academic policies in the 2011-2012 catalog since that is the year you started courses at Cortland.

¨  Attend Transfer Express programming to meet new people and learn about the College.

¨  Meet with your academic advisor once you arrive on campus.  Your advisor’s name and contact information can be found on myRedDragon.  Your advisor helps you with course selection but also academic decision making and planning.  You must with your advisor prior to registration for each semester.  Registration for fall courses begins in early April.  As an advisee, you are responsible for:
o   Initiating contact, asking questions, communicating your concerns
o   Learning your degree requirements and academic policies
o   Preparing for appointments
o   Exploring minors, concentrations, study abroad

¨   Attend club interest meetings.  Get involved!
