Permission to Transfer

If you are thinking about taking courses at a college near your hometown over the summer, you must get permission from the Transfer Credit Coordinator, located in the Advisement and Transition office.  Schedule an appointment to meet with your advisor to first discuss the class.  Your advisor must sign the Permission to Transfer form as well, and you must provide a course description for all the courses requested for transfer credit if not listed on our equivalency charts.

Check the Transfer Equivalency Chart online as a guide for which courses will transfer to Cortland: http://www2.cortland.edu/offices/advisement-and-transition/transfer-credit-services/transfer-equivalencies/

  • As a transfer student, you should pay attention to how many credits you transferred already.  A maximum of 64 credits can be transferred from 2-year colleges, and you may already be at this limit.  A maximum of 79-83 credits can be transferred from a combination of two and four year colleges.  Remember your residency requirement!  You must complete a minimum of 45 credits at Cortland.
  • If you are taking this course as a re-take to raise your GPA, the re-take must be taken at Cortland in order to impact your GPA.
  • Grades of C– or better transfer back to Cortland for credit.  D grades will not transfer.
  • Your advisor or the Transfer Credit Coordinator should be able to answer questions you have regarding planning for summer courses.  All the best for a productive summer!
